Drama fever

Yes yes, I've been spending my holidays watching dramas, dramas made in the USA and Korea! Too much of a good thing is really not good, cuz I kind of am growing tired of following one whole show which has at least 20 episodes. But I did come off wiser though- to the dawning conclusion that dramas are worth following if largely cuz of a new story for every episode and witty but not too difficult to understand but enjoyable dialogue. Throw in a little teenage angst and I'm good to go. I'm just finishing off season 1 of The OC and it has now become one of my favourite shows! You have so much going on, teen drama, issues and I admit, even the drama going on in the adults' life is riveting to watch. Not to mention, a majority of the cast has above average looks. They really have a good cast-a memorable-looking cast, not generic.
I can go on and on about each character but I would take forever so I'll just talk about the protagonist, played by Mischa Barton. I think she was really only 16 or 17 years old when she played her character who is a girl in high school. I didn't used to like Mischa, from looking at her partying ways in the media, her choice of boyfriends, her voice ( I watched a few episodes of The OC on TV before), her don't-mess-with-me expressions that's always on her face, to her fashion, hairstyle make-up . I knew she was kind of popular in the US but not as popular as Rachel Bilson, her best friend in the show. When I watched this show, my view of her took a complete turn.
Mischa can act really well, she can convey so much with her expressions, and can play her character very very well. Did I mention she's really pretty too? Like, naturally truly pretty. That's the reason why she only puts on minimal make-up, cuz she knows that her looks are already strong and beautiful enough not to hide behind coats of makeup. And she's really tall, that's why she don't wear heels, but flats.
A few days after watching a few episodes of The OC, I borrowed a magazine from the library with her featured inside. Inside, she talks about her background, how she's been acting since she was eight years old and how she grew up in England! She's actually a British! No wonder the kind of weird accent she has. She is already really trying her best to sound American. I think I would sound like her if I tried to put on an American accent. In the mag, she says, "Sometimes, I feel like a big weird conglomerate of things, you know, the English girl who moves to New York and then ends up in L.A. doing a show about Orange County. I don't think most people understand me, but I like my individuality. I'm really good at adapting to my environment, like when I moved to New York, I realised the kids were going to make fun of me for my English accent, so I just lost it." Well, I think her American accent still needs a little fine-tuning, she has to get used to sounding like a natural....but hey, she has got her acting covered. You know, I can't wait to see her acting in movies. I think she'll be great in whatever she does.

Other US shows I've been watching are Veronica Mars and Heroes. Veronica Mars is a really smart show about this high-school girl who works for her father, a Private Investigator and every week, she solves a mystery that's related either to her school or to her schoolmates. The show portrays her ways of solving crimes very realistically, and it's cool to see a girl around my age going about cleverly solving mysteries.
As for Heroes, it's interesting but too unrealistic for me. And it's one whole giant story which doesn't really make sense in the end. However, the actors are goood, which makes the show watchable. And that is why, I can't wait to go see them when they're in Singapore in August!
Korean dramas, gosh, my friend has lent me about 5 shows (My girl, Sad love story, Little Bride, Love is All Around, Smile Again) and I've only gotten around to watching the first and second for some, episodes of each show. Cuz honestly, my mum and I don't know if we'll have the energy to keep up with the shows.
I now also am considering watching the Channel 8 drama currently showing at 9pm, Switched. Cuz of the young local actors, and also with the hope that I can listen out for the Mandarin and be immersed in the Chinese language (seeing as how I suck so much in the language)! haha, yup, I don't think that's a bad idea.
