It's been a break this whole week. Plans to catch up on readings, make a little progress through, but is just continually unraveling. Where did time go? Why does time fly by when you want to hold on to it? WHY can't we hold on to it? I'm nowhere near satisfactorily completing my readings in any subject. To put it simply, school sucks.
And now, just as I was hoping to fill up my application for the summer programme to Korea, I just got an email from the relevant department saying only 3 places are being offered. Like, WTH?? I just want to go there to learn the language, mingle with my Korean peers, explore Korea, be totally immersed in the culture while getting great discount in lodging and food Is that too simple a request?
Why must everything in NUS be so rigid and competitive and inflexible? What got me dreaming of the summer programme in the first place was cuz of my friend from the other major uni in Singapore, who went to France after her first semester, with about 40 others (supposedly under the 'same' summer programme) and had a blast. Apparently, summer programmes in NUS are only stuff that students dream of and in reality, which scholars apply for. WTF. Check out some parts of the announcement in my mail,
"Please also include all your result slips, all relevant supporting documents which would be useful for the consideration of your application."I fully expected to submit my entry on Wednesday this week with only the compulsory form sheet (oh how truly naive I am, after reading the above line in today's official announcement mail that came in), but kept putting it off because I had to fill in my CAP (Cumulative Average Point aka GPA) result and I couldn't remember the exact figure. And I admit, I was too chicken to be reminded of it. And now, I just got off looking at my academic results history online, from my first year till now, and I didn't realise a pattern that I should have from the start-that my grades are steadily dropping.
This is such a wakeup call, I gotta start micromanaging my school life and everyday schedule, if I am looking to drastically pull up that CAP. And just so you don't know, I am. God help me.

Day 1, officially the start of CNY, after a freaking unbelievable (but thankfully uneventful) close to ten hours (including rest stops) drive to Penang, we headed to Gurney plaza shopping mall and walked around the alfresco area on the first floor (where all the eateries were), before choosing Chili's bar cum restaurant, which offered western and mexican fare.
And, i ordered Fajitas, feeling nonchalantly gastronomically adventurous.

Scene shots,

We all got our food! And took this lovely family shot before tucking in. As you can see, I'm the only one wearing red (and do you know WHY the Chinese wear red on CNY?), but the funny fact is, it's OLD (and you know we're supposed to get new year's clothes), i got it since I was...11? So it's cool vintage, it's like a little black dress, only it's red, and the hemline's pretty high for me now (lucky I wore shorts, cuz it ran up so high while i was sitting down in the car). :P

Coming with our (my mum and I) Fajitas' plate of mixed meat (with mushroom toppings) was a plate of sauces which include spinach, tomato and sour cream, and veggie fillings. What are Fajitas? It's something like Tacos (maybe they're the same? I have no idea). The meat was far far too salty. I think it was the chef's fault, cuz it's almost impossible that people can eat something that salty. But then again, there's this alcoholic drink (possibly of Mexican orgin?), the Margarita (and even tequila) where salt is applied on the rim of the glass. So, who knows? I couldn't finish my portion, it was too much for my tastebud. :D Anyway, how it went was, we were given the taco wraps separately, and we could fill it up inside with the meat and all that by ourselves. The whole finished Fajita then tasted really like your typical pizza. Interesting! I would have finished my fill if only the taste wasn't so salty-weird. To think that I once planned to try out all those mexican restaurants in LA when I really thought I was gonna travel there 2 years ago...

To conclude, it's so funny how I unwittingly got such a cultural food shock. Cuz this was just being discussed in my sociology class recently, where we were asked to examine the food we eat everyday, as it indirectly reflects our heritage :D SO true, the mixed rice stall is where I frequent, at most hawker centres (my mum rarely cooks) . And THAT's PRC kinda food, did u know?

Quickie
I only have time to say in a few things. Time is just so damn rushed. We are defined by all these social structures and demands, we barely have me-time, me-time to blog, just to name. Ever since tutorials started two weeks ago, I've been feeling so darn tired, and falling asleep at a drop on my bed. Even last night, I vowed to start on my CCA duties, but unexpectedly (maybe not quite) 'postponed' it till this morning at 8.30am, simply because I was taking a ten-minute nap at 10pm last night while reading my Media Writing book, which turned into an all-night fullon sleep. I just finished writing my script for the day, and doing my Tuesday radio show at 1pm. Rushing off to have my lunch before getting ready at the studio for the show. I have a makeup tutorial from 2-5pm, which is usually a whole chunk of free time for some exercising, before my lecture at 6-8pm. That's cuz CNY is around the corner and some merciless teachers insist on not letting us miss their lessons. Speaking of which, my talented neighbour had just finished baking a whole container of cookies and passed it to us, still warm last evening, 6pm, it was all gone by 10pm. Personally, I can't stand cooking, what with all the preparation needed, but I don't mind baking. AND, I caught Sweeny Todd last night. Yay. It was pretty good, what would you expect with Tim Burton and such an excellent cast which includes Johnny Depp the man?
Anyway, good luck in last minute Chinese New year goodies and new-clothes shopping. I want peanut cookies! anyone wanna share with me? and some bak kwa, but it's either sold out or too ex. Typical.
I'm out! Mum's threatening me to get my butt off the seat, and get ready for school and for her to take over using this com.
