In the morning, I tried playing a few Jason Mraz songs on my classical guitar...and I really suck. For example, his song Plane only has 4 chords, four entire chords throughout the song: Ebm, F#, B and Bb and I can't switch between them fast enough. Cuz they're like the F chord where your index finger have to press down on all 6 strings on the guitar. I gotta build up my fingering strength. And the plucking and strumming is so difficult to copy from the original!! Argh. Jason like, doesn't strum on that song. He slaps on the chords, so that the sound doesn't ring, it comes out kind of muted. how the fugg does a person do that?? Jason Mraz is too much of a maestro for a novice like me to think of emulating.... :P Though the chords in Mraz's songs are simple enough (for an ok guitar player), the plucking is not. His songs like I'll Do Anything and Dream Life of Rand McNally(Singapore's mentioned!) are my favourites and I really want to learn how to play them.....sighzzz
He is such a genius, look at how he effortlessly plays and sings...
...and rolls his tongue when singing...
So then after lunch, I got down to reading the papers and my neighbours decided at that moment to blast karaoke. My three sets of neighbours, it's like, they were trying to outblast each other. One set were Fillipinos (singing Fillipino retro rock), one set the Chinese Elderly (singing Oriental retro) and the last set was Malay (singing ethnic Malay-ish pop/rock). I think cuz it's Friday, to cause people to relax and chill. "TGIF", they must be thinking, "Let's start partying early." I wanted to plug into my Ipod to tune them out with some Jason Mraz tunes but thankfully, my neighbours didn't last long.
Living in a HDB flat is kind of a nightmare. You experience so many noises and smells everyday. And then there's that small mad dog that lives in the block next door and which barks at 11-12 midnight sporadically. I asked the Town Council office (a short walking distance away) what I and they can do about it and the lady at the counter just said, "If it's a licensed dog, we can't confiscate it. and concerning the noise, that's the matter of the HDB authorities to take care of." I'd love to you know, murder that dog one of these days, and savouringly eat it..Cuz I'm of half Korean blood, I surely can take to dog meat right? ha.
In the papers today are of how the last book of the Harry Potter series is gonna be released tomorrow. When it's 12am in the UK on Saturday, 21 July 2007, it'll be 7am here and that's when the books will start flying off the shelves. You know, I'm not really excited, as in not fanatic about knowing the ending of Harry Potter as soon as I can, but I'd love to catch the action of those fanatics. Bookstores staff will be decked in Potter gear and buyers are encouraged to dress up in potter garb. And since this is the LAST book in the Harry Potter series, I'm sure people will certainly dress as outlandishly or enthusiastically as possible, and it'll probably be my first and only chance to catch people in Potter costumes. I think if these people had their way, they would announce tomorrow as Potter day and walk around in their costumes all day. whatever it is, I wanna take some pictures.
Harry Potter---with its enormous popularity, do u think it encourages magic? Be it positive or evil magic. The papers talked about this recently and it seems that the Wiccans are happy with the Harry Potter phenomenom, of it turning magic into popular culture, along with shows like Charmed.
My old church didn't allow us to keep the book (I had Chamber of Secrets), confiscating it, along with relics which had dragon motifs on them. Of course, Christians disapprove of magic. cuz then it means summoning demons to help you. u know what I mean?
But then again, Harry Potter is fiction. and it has artistic merit. as in, the writer is really good. and I just enjoy it as that. but then again, it's like saying violent movies/video games don't have an effect on me....
ok, also, in other news in the papers, It had some good news for people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, IBS (hint: moi) and constipation.
It seems that if these people take two kiwi fruits a day, their symptoms may be greatly relieved. Researchers at the Taipei Medical University and its School of Nutrition and Health Sciences. They found that the kiwifruit helps improve the digestive process and bowel movements. Kiwifruits also helps you sleep.
Kiwifruit has rich dietary fibre content. For example, every 100g of banana holds 1.5g of fibre while the same amount of kiwifruit holds 3.4g of fibre. and on top of that, kiwifuit contains half the amount of calories.
In Singapore, 1 in 10 suffer from IBS. The majority are women. Common symptoms include bloated stomach and irregular bowel movement which can lead to extreme physical discomfort.
Kiwifruits however, may aggrevate reflux or heartburn if the fruit is sour. Many with IBS also tend to have reflux. Reminds me of Ashlee Simpson. haha
Do u know kiwi also prevents strokes and heart disease? It says so on a page tacked on my wadrobe from a Singapore health magazine Shape, I ripped out of.
Fruits are good! I love fruits and vegetables, haha. There's something so good in just, washing and eating something organic without cooking it.
and someone (Choothomas.com) said there are lots of fruit trees and fishes in heaven.....:)
