Journey to house
Cycled for the first time to Liy's house today, to help her with school stuff. The cycling took about 20 minutes. Did i mention that my area is a nice place to cycle? Well it is. There are tall skinny pine trees (I think they're pine)lining the pavements and on the opposite side is a huge, meandering park. Though it was like,a little after noon, I took a leisurely ride on my creaky red bike.
Met her at the busstop and she walked with me to the lift at her block. She lives on the 3rd floor, and since the lift doesn't stop on every floor, we stopped on the 6th floor and had to walk down some flights of stairs. We locked my bike on the fourth floor landing (cuz Liy thought it was tiring for me to carry my bike down the stairs), just as some fourth floor Indian neighbours got out of their flat. When we finished and started making our way to the 3rd floor, one of the Indians stopped us.
He said, "Wait, come back."
By that time, his friends had already left and he was the one who stayed behind and saw them off. He was dark, a little mascular, and tattooed. and half-naked (bared-shirted). And I reluctantly turned around with Liy, to face him.
He asked, "Who are you?"
I said, "Huh?"
He asked, "What are you doing?"
We said, "huh?"
He asked, "Where do you come from?"
-Still blank looks from both of us...-
You see how stupid his questions were?
Then he said, "You want me to call the police?"
Gladly. I was starting to feel a little irritated at his harrassment. I said, "Call la!"
Then he continued on with his stupid questions.
Saying, "Why are you here?", "What were you doing with that bike?"
We told him I was locking the bike and that Liy lived below.
He said something like, "Don't try to be funny. What were you doing?"
and then, he said, "Give me your IC (Identification Card)"
No way. I asked, "For what? no."
then he said, "Then show me where is your friend's house, I want to see."
No freaking way. I just said, "Downstairs."
By this time, another guy from his flat, who was also shirtless, poked his head out of the door to see what his friend was doing. I saw that he looked a little friendlier than his friend, so I gave his friend a confused, bewildered look. I wanted this to end now. and I was wondering if his friend was going to go back inside and get some weapon or something. and then I started wondering if I could kick their asses if they made any moves, cuz I'm a certifed black belt.
Then his friend asked him, "What's going on?" and his friend spoke some Tamil to him.
Then his friend asked us, "Is that your bike? Were you locking it?" While pulling his friend away and trying to explain to us that the dark man had overreacted.
The dark man then ran up the landing and examined my bike. What the! Is he trying to do something to my bike?! I thought. But then, the dark man runs back to us.
YES! Finally. Someone gets us. I said to the friend, "Yes, I was just trying to lock
my bike!"
and then the friend calmed him down. and the dark man gave us a brief apology and offered me a handshake, saying, "My brand new bike got stolen at the same place a while ago."
I quickly shook his hand and walked down with my friend. While wondering, whether I looked like a thief. Maybe I did, a little. Cuz I was wearing a cap and my hair was up in a messy bun. Dang, only then did I realize. They finally closed their door behind us.
But the dark man was way too much. When you are two girls standing in a semi-dark, quiet staircase landing, your imagination runs wild u know?
I then changed my bike position to right outside my friend's door. Chained to the pipe outside her door.
Just a day that happened today. thought I should blog it down.
-Happy Ending- Thank God.
