the universe was so aligned in my favour on Mraz night.
during soundcheck. we heard the songs A Beautiful Mess and Butterfly, and whatnot...So it happened to me yesterday. I always knew it would, and usually it happens faster than i think it would. WHAT happened you ask?
I met my current favourite artiste ((just like meeting avril lavigne and johnny depp in the past) by sheer stroke of luck! No, i don't think it was luck, it was....effort? sharp observation? fate?. and well yes, probably a certain dose of luck.
I actually went backstage to meet Mraz the man! *cue hysterical scream* It really made my day super-special and worth it. Let's see how it happened:
Hmm, the fact that I was at the concert venue since 11 plus in the morning all alone, staking out. Why was I there, is because I heard Mraz and co had already arrived at the airport quite early in the morning. And as far as 'stalking' goes, I am quite poor in the 'early rising' department. So anyway, I wasn't getting any other info from other sources as to his hotel accommodation or schedule so I knew the next best option which had some promise to it was to go to the concert venue early. I kept asking my friends/fellow fans to tell me I'm not stupid, haha.
So anyway, while there, I definitely got a lot of stares from the crew and sistic ppl because I so looked like I did not belong. Like, the people hanging around there at that time of the day were either wearing black attire or office clothes respectively. I sorely stood out with my own getup. And I was all alone. who knew a concert venue can be so lonely and quiet. And it was a freaking humid day which i learnt later was because it was going to rain. So I waited, walked around, thought i saw a shadowy figure of toca inside the stadium, wondering what i can do, who i can ask, to find out some teensy bit of info. And then suddenly at one point I heard booming music, like literally the floor and doors were shaking. I really thought they were having soundcheck but then soon realized they were playing some cd music soundtrack. And finally, 2 other fans whom i know through my fan group showed up about a couple of hours later, straight from school. I was super glad of the company man. The time passed more quickly after that, and then we saw Mraz and the band arrive sometime in mid-afternoon, and they saw us while walking into the venue, waved, and quickly went inside. We didn't shout or scream. Learnt my lesson the other time at Singfest. when they went in, we really prayed and hoped Mraz would come out again, but he was a no-show :( the other members frequently came out for smoke breaks and we fans started saying things like, 'that's the bad thing about mraz quitting smoking'. lol. i think we drove the security guards guarding the area, nuts. Cuz we kept turning to look in their direction and they thought we were waiting for somebody or even doing something important. Siiigh. At one point, a security person even tried to hit on me or something, because I was cocking my ear towards the stadium and facing him, lost in my thoughts about what songs they were doing for their soundcheck and he must have thought some weird things. So he walked over and who asked who was I waiting for. I said we're just chilling around. I recognised that guy, I always see him at other concerts.
waited around so much longer. finally, when the seemingly very long soundcheck ended, and when another fan whom i met at singfest joined me, toca came out and i asked if i could pass some gifts to him. Anyway, let me digress a bit here. I swear, Eray, you're my good luck charm or something! Everytime you're around, the Mraz situation starts to turn around for the better. And you're like, just enjoying the ride huh? ok, so anyway, toca smoked finished and was walking back into the venue, when he suddenly jolted and remembered i was waiting for him. haha, it was so funny, cuz his sudden realization was seen so clearly in his body motion. so he came over and i showed him what i had. And he actually moved the barrier aside and came to our side to take pictures with us. what a cool guy.

he later spent a lot a lot of time signing things for loads of other fans when they started arriving at the stadium near showtime. what a friendly guy :) i also chatted with him, not quite sure wht i asked him, oh yeah, i said, 'i hope you'll enjoy the concert' and he started like, giving a mini speech about fans as well as the band both having a good time at the concert.
so abt one more hour or less after that, the other fans left and only me and eray were around to make glosticked signs, which i didn't even use during the concert because some sticks weren't working, and we were making letters with those sticks, so it'll look stupidly incomplete if all the sticks weren't lighted up. At one point, one very busybody indian guy wearing a midas promotions lanyard thought our packets of glosticks were for sparklers and i said they weren't and he didn't believe me. So i passed him a packet to see. When he handed it back over, i casually asked(trying to be cheeky), 'so sparklers aren't allowed in the venue or something?' he said, 'you know that right?'. geez. whatever. who the hell brings sparklers into an indoor venue? so there we were, sitting down with all our stuff spread out and were taking quite some time to stick those glosticks together properly with tape when surprise surprise, 2 ppl suddenly walked in front of me...
